Why did you choose to do this course?
Lockdown meant the hotel was closed so I had time to work on developing myself and my skills. With 3 people reporting to me and no formal people management training under my belt I felt now was the time to do this.
Why choose DCM?
My Manager had completed previous training with DCM & he highly recommended them for their very hands on & practical training methods.
How did you find the course?
Course was completed through Zoom so it was less interactive than a full classroom setting but the tutor Andrew did hes best to keep everyone involved & engaged. The content was excellent, the module worksheets great to help you focus & adapt what we learned to our own everyday roles.
Any advice you would give to new students?
I'd definitely recommend this course, even if not a people manager it still gives really good learnings about the different communication & listening styles & the importance of how everyone works & is motivated differently. This kind of knowledge is an asset to anyone in helping them understand their own styles & methods of working which in turn makes them a better employee or team player.
Since completing the course, what have you done or how has your career progressed?
I would say my main learning from the course has been around my own self awareness and understanding how my words, actions & attitudes shape & impact on others especially my direct reports. I have really worked on the area of active listening rather than selective which would have been my go to mode before this course. I believe this has made me a better people manager & I feel I have more of an understanding of my team & what they trying to tell me both directly and indirectly. I would definitely say it has improved our working relationship and as a team we are more productive due to the skills & knowledge I gained on this effective people management course.
