Driver CPC Training is required by all professional bus, lorry and coach drivers who work in Europe to ensure that the highest quality safety standards are maintained. There are two types of Driver CPC Training that are required by law:
Driver CPC Initial Training
All potential professional drivers will need to pass Initial Qualification Tests, which will assess their knowledge and skills around the areas outlined by the legislation.
Driver CPC Periodic Training
Driver CPC Periodic Training refers to the 35 hours of training that professional bus and truck drivers must complete every five years (seven hours/ one day per year) to keep their Driver CPC valid.
Driver CPC Training in Ireland is regulated by the Road Safety Authority and in order to deliver this type of training, you must be an RSA approved provider.
In order to become an RSA approved provider, there are a number of requirements you must meet:
1. Degree (National Qualifications Framework NQF Level 7) in a Business, Transport or Engineering discipline and/or professional qualification/membership in a relevant discipline e.g. member of the Institute of Engineers.
2. Train the Trainer or NUI Higher Diploma in Education or teacher training at NQF Level 6 or above.
3. 3 years experience in training/employment/management within the transport industry
The RSA has developed the training modules to be used during training sessions and these modules cover areas such as road safety, environmental driving and issues involving the health and well being of professional drivers.
